Windows 8.1: the option «Show more tiles»
Taking into account the rapid market growth of high definition displays, Microsoft added in Windows 8.1 support these screens. And even though the update to the operating system adds new sizes for tiles, so that users can pin to the start screen, more apps, Windows 8.1 has received another new feature called «Show more tiles».
As you might guess, this function allows you to add additional rows for tiles, however it is not available on all displays. For example, on my computer that is connected to HP 2311x monitor with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 (1080p), this feature is not available, but it is on the 8.1-inch Acer tablet Iconia W3 with a resolution of 1280 x 800 (720p). Apparently, the operating system takes into account the density of pixels per inch, plus an overall screen resolution.
If you want to check the functions on your device with Windows 8.1 RT, go to the start screen, press Win + i to open the right panel, choose «Tile». If the menu Tiles you will see the option «Show more tiles», congratulations as you will be able to increase the number of rows on the start screen.
Note: the number of available rows of tiles in Windows 8.1 depends on screen resolution, size and orientation. In portrait mode, by the way, the ranks will be much greater.
In General, this is a great addition, especially given the fact that we see more devices with high screen resolution (tablets, ultrabooks, laptops and desktop computers).
P. S. On Windows 8, you can also change the number of rows on the start screen, but with the help of registry.
