Windows 8.1: the app «reading List» – save web pages for later viewing
In addition to numerous interface changes, Windows 8.1 comes with several new applications, of which many of us will love «reading List». This app works best with a Modern version of Internet Explorer, or to be more precise, only with him it works.
«Reading list» is a standalone application that allows you to save web pages via Charm «Share». Saved web pages can be read later without connecting to the Internet. Many of you may recall service Pocket, but in fact the new app is more like a similar feature in Safari. In General, the application is very simple, and even allows you to organize saved pages either in folders or by categories. However, search feature in the app allows you to quickly find the desired page.
To save the page in the «reading List» (again, only works with Modern version of Internet Explorer), open the Charms bar (for example, using the keyboard shortcuts Win + C) and click «Share».
Right on the screen panel will appear with the icon of the application «reading List». Page to be added to the app, if you click on this icon, and then click «add to reading list».
To view the saved pages, you need to run the «reading List». When you open any saved page, the application will be automatically bound to the left side of the screen and Internet Explorer will open to the right that will allow you to see both apps side by side. In addition, you can quickly access other pages.
To delete a page from the application, simply right-click the mouse, and in the lower part of the screen click on the «Delete» button. Access recently deleted pages, you can get in the top app bar. Unfortunately, the app does not have option «Mark as read».
Deleted pages can be stored for a maximum of 60 days and not less than 10 days. To configure the retention period for deleted pages, go to application settings (Win + i) and choose the option that suits you.
«Reading list» is a great app, but, obviously, it is still in the development stage. Perhaps the launch of the final version of Windows 8.1, the application will get missing functions.
