Windows 7 and 8 too, want to follow you
You are still concerned about the built-in Windows 10 tools to track user behavior? Is that any reason to continue using Windows 7 or 8? It is likely that soon it won’t be much point, as the latest data show that Microsoft is slowly but surely integrates the same algorithms collect information in two earlier versions of the operating system.
In particular, we are talking about four new system updates for Windows 7 and 8. For example, a patch with an identification code KB3068708 «offers telemetry and diagnostics that allow you to enjoy many benefits of the new version of Windows, even if you didn’t upgrade». The situation is similar with the update KB3075249that adds telemetry (i.e., tracking) functions to Control user accounts.
Finally, the third and fourth system update – KB3080149 and KB3022345also add diagnostic and telemetry to collect information about user behavior.
All these system updates had to be downloaded and installed on your computer automatically if the Windows update you are using the default settings.
Microsoft says they are active (i.e. collect and transmit data to the company’s servers), only if you wish to participate in the so-called program for the improvement of the quality of the user experience (Customer Experience Improvement Program).
The problem here is that we are talking not only about your acceptance of the offer from the operating system itself, but also from each installed application, which is part of this program. For example, if you installed Microsoft Office with the default settings, this means that you have agreed to be part of the customer experience improvement program during the installation. That is, even if you do not give their consent, when installing Windows, the operating system may collect and send to Microsoft information about you if you use the app that fall under Customer Experience Improvement Program.
Fortunately, these updates are not critical (mandatory). This means that their removal will not affect the normal work of the operating system.
Just open the window «Programs and features», go to «View installed updates» find the update with the following identifiers: KB3068708, KB3022345, KB3075249 and KB3080149. If they are installed, right-click the mouse on each of them and click «Remove».
To ensure that after Windows will not download and will not install it again, log in to the control Panel -> System and security -> Windows update -> Check for updates. After searching the system will notify you about available updates. Under optional updates, locate KB3068708, KB3022345, KB3075249 and KB3080149 and hide them. After that, they will not be displayed and will not be installed automatically.
