Windows 10 keeps almost 8% of the market, but growth is slowing
Three months after the release of Windows 10 operating system has almost 8 percent market share, according to the latest data from Net Applications.
Windows 10 was installed on more than 75 million computers during the first four weeks and after six weeks, this figure has exceeded 110 million units. As we know, Microsoft wants to reach 1 billion devices running Windows 10 within two to three years – although this figure includes not only computers, but also smartphones, consoles, and other devices.
Windows 10 was 6.63% of the market in September, and by the end of October the share of OS climbed 1.31% to 7.94%. Growth has slowed sharply: nearly 5% during the first month compared to slightly more than one percent during the third month after the commercial debut. If the current trend continues, the company will not be able to achieve the above mentioned goal.
The share of Windows 8 fell by 0.06% to 2.54%, and Windows 8.1 – by 0.04% to 10.68%. In sum, these two OS versions is 13.22% of the market (the peak was recorded in may – 16.45%).
Before the advent of the «tens» Windows 7 managed to overcome a boundary in 60% of the market share. It was in June. By the end of October the share of the most popular desktop operating system declined to 55.71%. However, despite the inevitable rise of a new version of the operating system «seven» will maintain a leading position for a long time.
The popularity of Windows Vista has increased by 0.01% to 1.74%, while the share of XP has decreased by 0.53% to 11.68%.
In General, in October the share of all versions of Windows rolled slightly down by 0.12% to 90.42%. Platform OS X from Apple, on the contrary, showed a slight rise by 0.28% to 8.00%, while Linux was down 0.17% to 1.57%.
