This guide will be useful to you, if any attempt to update to the latest build of Windows 10 through Windows Update fail with code 0x80246017. The solution is below.
To overcome the problem, Microsoft recommends that you perform the following steps:
Open registry editor and navigate to the following path:
- Locate the parameter BranchName and make sure its value is used fbl_impressive. If not, then change.
- Locate the setting ThresholdRiskLevel and change its value to low.
- Parameters ThresholdInternal and ThresholdOptedIn here should not be at all, so find and remove them.
Close the registry, go to Settings > Update and security > advanced settings and select quick method of producing assemblies (Fast). Check for updates.
Microsoft explained the origin of the problem, indicating that the error causes the client does not have permission to download the build through Windows Update. This is in most cases due to the fact that some insiders, in previous releases, tried to download build tested internally by editing the registry. These changes in the registry and cause error.
