Windows 10 build 10056: how to enable the hidden dark theme
Last Friday, leaked version 10056 new operating system from Microsoft, which includes a number of improvements, including the start menu is resizable, the new display settings and personalization, improved Cortana, and more. Moreover, digging in the system registry, curious users discovered that Microsoft is working on a new, dark theme for Windows 10.
Dark theme represents something new for the desktop version of the operating system, but Windows Phone users it will seem very familiar, as the mobile platform from Microsoft since the first days of its existence allows you to choose between light and dark design of the interface.
This is another feature that makes mobile and desktop operating system closer to each other, and following the steps below, you can enable it right now if you have a build 10056.
- Press + R on keyboard and type regedit in the line of a window Run. Then hit Enter to open registry editor.
- Proceed in the following way:
- In the Personalize tab, create a DWORD (32-bit). To do this, click the right mouse button on empty space in the folder Personalize, select «new — > DWORD value». Set the DWORD name SystemUsesLightTheme and a value of 0.
- Restart the computer to see the new theme. If you decide to go back to the light registration, simply delete the value or modify its value to 1.
Please note, to dark theme covered the control panel and Action Center, open the app Settings and enable the option Show color on taskbar and Start menu in the section Personalization Colors. Otherwise, these interface elements will continue to inherit the color scheme of your chosen theme.
