If the installation of Windows 10 November Update freezes, remove the memory card and make sure you have enough free memory
On the official Microsoft forum has already appeared the first reports about the difficulties with installing the November updates for Windows 10 that was released yesterday. One of the most common problems is that the update process gets stuck at 44% or so. This is reportedly evident on the devices SD card in the expansion slot and the only way to solve the problem is to remove the memory card. After that, the installation will continue.
Here is what the moderators of the support forum:
We observed that on some devices the SD card in the memory slot, the installation of Windows 10 November Update stops responding at 44%. Currently, we are investigating the issue.
If the installation stopped at 44%, make sure that your device does not have a memory card. If it is, remove it so that the update can continue from the same place. If the memory card is necessary to you as additional hard disk space to install the update, see if you have a USB/Mini-USB port for connecting a USB drive that you could use to install the update. Otherwise, you can try to free up disk space of your device.
The download size of updates is about 3 GB, so before installation, make sure that you have enough space on the system drive. If space is really not enough use, for example, a built-in tool «disk Cleanup».
2 reasons why you may not receive the November update
1. Since the update less than 31 days
According to Microsoft’s November update will be available immediately after you upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 or 8.1 less than 31 days.
Since Microsoft allows you to revert to your previous version of Windows within the first 31 days from the date of transition to Windows 10 computers that were upgraded to Windows 10 in the last month will receive the update immediately. After 31 days, your PC will receive the update automatically.
To see the day when you installed the upgrade to Windows 10, enter Systeminfo in a command prompt window and press Enter. Then locate the line «install date».
2. You have enabled the option «Defer updates»
If the settings enable the option «Defer updates», November Update will be available immediately. To check this, go to Settings > Update and security > update Windows > Additional settings. Uncheck the appropriate checkbox, if it is installed.
It should also be noted that the users who will uninstall the update, can’t get it through Windows Update. In this case, you will need to use either the Media Creation Tool or installation media.
