Update Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 will not all smartphones
The website Neowin reports that the update of Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2, also known as GDR2, will receive only some models sold in certain markets and in the networks of individual mobile operators, including Lumia 830 and 735.
The news was announced at Microsoft during a press conference for the launch of the Lumia 640 and 640 XL in the UK, which include the aforementioned update.
The decision to deploy the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 on select devices sold in certain countries, was dictated by the need to comply with regulations in several countries, including the United States, which suggest the strengthening of measures to protect smartphones from theft. This explains why Microsoft decided to include in the GDR2 new feature which allows to prevent the reset to factory settings or reinstalling the system software and roll back to the previous software version on a lost or stolen device.
At the moment it is difficult to say exactly which models will receive the update in Russia and will get it at all. I can just remember the major changes that contains Update 2: the new organization of settings in the menu Settings, support for VoLTE (voice over LTE) and connectivity support for Bluetooth keyboards.
