Microsoft OEM-manufacturers will get Windows 8.1 RTM in late August
Nearly two weeks after the publication of the preliminary version of Windows 8.1, Microsoft announced that Windows 8.1 RTM to OEMs to be released in late August. The announcement was made today during a conference of the Worldwide Partners Conference 2013.
Windows 8.1 is not exactly the new version of the Windows operating system. This is a major update for Windows 8 includes many changes that address shortcomings of the OS. Among the most notable innovations that brings Windows 8.1 – the return of the «start» button (not to be confused with the «start» menu), boot to desktop, redesigned start screen, a redesigned control panel with a user interface based on metro (which Microsoft calls «PC Settings»), tight integration with cloud, SkyDrive, enhanced search based on Bing search, and new applications (for example, «reading List»).
In the past the software giant said that the update will be available free for all current users of Windows 8 and Windows RT. The company, however, did not indicate exactly when users will be able to download the final version. In early June, Paul Thurrott suggested that the final version will be released on August 1, but now that Microsoft has confirmed that the RTM version of the producers will be only at the end of August, we can say with confidence that the launch of the updates for consumers will be held in the autumn, probably in October.
