The files and folders on the flash drive turned into shortcuts. How to fix?
We all use USB drives to transfer and store files; this is useful because such a device you can take with you anywhere. I recently encountered a strange problem which I want to share with you.
So, it all started with the fact that I connected the USB stick to the computer of his colleague, to throw myself up some files. Later that day, when I connected the flash drive to my personal PC, I with amazement found out that all files and folders in USB turned into shortcuts. In addition to that on the flash drive there was a folder named .Trashes. This led me to thinking that in the set of files that I copied from computer colleagues, I moved to him and some kind of virus.
In order not to waste time, I checked the USB drive with antivirus, Windows Defender, which is integrated directly into Windows 8. In fact, the antivirus has detected something suspicious. Then he made a clearing, and then asked me to restart the computer. However, after rebooting nothing has changed.
Then I went to Google, and the search engine suggested to me that I’m not the only one who has faced such a problem. In short, I found a working solution and want to share it here.
Step 1: make Sure that the Windows Explorer settings you have enabled show hidden files and folders. Now open a command prompt with administrator privileges, type the following command and press Enter (remember to replace h: the beech of your USB drive):
attrib-h-r -s /s h:*.*
Step 2: then open the USB flash drive. You will find that the shortcuts are still here, but there were your files and folders, and then you can move them to another location.
Step 3: Perenesite all the necessary files to the computer and the labels may remain on the flash drive. Then just reformat the USB drive and then, just in case, run a full system scan with «Windows Defender» or any other antivirus.
Step 4: Copy the files back to the flash drive.
This should solve the problem.
