Start10 is the first alternative start menu for Windows 10
Sometimes I feel sorry for the people working at Microsoft. Not often, but it happens. They can not to please its users. Don’t get me wrong, I do not support all the decisions that have been adopted by the company. I completely agree that the modern interface is not very convenient, because it’s designed for touch devices, not desktop computers. Not that it can’t be used to, but it certainly is very different from the traditional operating system interface. And yet I believe that to fall in extremes, is undesirable and wrong.
The above mentioned modern interface (Metro or Modern) is the main reason why many hate Windows 8. However, if you ventured to work in Windows 8 a little more than 10 seconds, you should have noticed that Metro is hiding under the old Windows interface, with the only difference that it lacks the usual «start menu». This is the second main reason why so many people spit to the side is a version of Microsoft’s operating system. Excluding these significant differences, while others are quite small, and they’re quickly getting used to it.
Here I want to make two important points:
1. Today Windows 8 and 8.1 are the best operating systems from a technological point of view. It is a fact. There cannot be two opinions on this question. So if someone criticizes their quality, he’s just not aware of. If you criticize the interface, that is a completely separate question, and everyone is entitled to a personal opinion. My opinion coincides with the majority of users: the Metro interface in General is quite inconvenient for devices without a touch screen. The difference is that I don’t go to extremes.
2. Windows 8.1 was returned missing the «start» button, but it doesn’t «start menu». The button just opens the standard Metro screen (also known as home screen). So in practice nothing has changed.
Why do I think that all these spitting is unnecessary and exaggerated? Yes, because Windows 8 can look almost like Windows 7 – in particular, you can easily return the «start menu». It, however, will have some differences from that in Windows 7, but the biggest problem will be resolved.
Microsoft’s approach to interface design of Windows 8 has prompted some developers to create solutions that could bring back to life the characteristics of previous versions of the operating system.
One of the most popular and, without exaggeration, the best ways to bring back the start menu called Classic Shell. Also scored the infamous Stardock company, releasing software Start8, which has exactly the same goal – to return the «start menu» in its place.
Now Microsoft is developing new Windows 10, which is to regain the trust of users, the company will offer a new start menu that combines the best of old and new. However, Stardock still felt the need to create their own, alternative «start menu» for Windows 10.
On the eve the company presented the program Start10 aimed at those who don’t like the «start menu» in Windows 10. Start10 replaces the standard menu with its more traditional and similar to those in Windows 7, ie, without radical changes. Developers proudly called Start10, the first alternative start menu for Windows 10, but the free Classic Shell received the compatible with Windows 10 back in December of last year.
New app offers flexible configuration, and for example, you can optionally remove the «start» button, choose the size of the icons within the menu to hide the image of the user and configure many other settings.
