Stardock Tiles – view and manage running programs in Windows
Some people argue that multitasking actually only prevents our brain to correctly process information, making us less focused and productive. In my case, multitasking has the opposite effect. Working in this mode helps me stay focused and productive throughout the day.
If we talk about multi-tasking on the computer (with multiple running apps), taskbar and hot keys Alt + Tab I used in very rare cases. I prefer something more convenient and functional. In particular, since recently, I prefer Tiles.
App Tiles, which was developed by the famous company Stardock, allows you to manage running programs and files (including the traditional desktop and modern apps for Windows 8) via a special side panel. With Tiles you can move from one application or file to another using fast and extremely convenient method.
The application is not portable, so first of all, it must be installed on the computer. Tiles supports all Windows operating systems, including 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7, 8 and 8.1.
In essence, Tiles makes work with files (or open Windows) and programs a pleasure. The sidebar consists of several pages (my tiles, apps and docs), which display thumbnails of running applications and files. To move between pages, the sidebar use the left mouse button and scroll wheel.
Interaction with Tiles is carried out with the mouse. For example, to scroll through the thumbnails up and down, use the mouse wheel. In addition, if you hold down the Shift button and then hold down the right mouse button on the thumbnail window, you can change its position. Thumbnails of open Windows resemble a standard thumbnail Windows on the taskbar. However, the Tiles allows you to see thumbnails as a normal Windows application, and contemporary (Modern).
Of course, the application has settings. To get to the settings window, click the right mouse button in the interface of the Tiles and on the shortcut select «Configure Stardock Tiles». This is the context menu additionally allows you to close or minimize/maximize the selected window.
The configuration window allows you to change various settings Tiles. For example, you can change the style of the sidebar, but this feature is only available in the paid version of the app. You can also change the size of the sidebar and its position on the screen. Another useful setting allows you to choose the types of items that appear on a specific page. For example, you can do so on the page «my tiles» display only thumbnails of applications, and on the page «apps» desktop apps.
In General, Tiles are most suitable for those who want quick access to running programs and open files. Currently available free and paid ($9.99) version of the Tiles, and the latter offers a number of additional options.
I think you will be able to find a use for this app, so be sure to try it.
