Portégé Z20t is Toshiba’s response on the Yoga 3 Pro and Surface Pro 3
Earlier this week during CES 2015, it was announced the new device from Toshiba, which bears the name of the Port’eg’e Z20t created as a direct competitor to Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3 and Yoga 3 Pro from Lenovo.
Of course the laptop, if you can call it that, is intended for corporate users, offering a premium design and long battery life. Compared to the Surface Pro 3, Port’eg’e Z20t has a thinner 8.8 mm profile and weighs 799 grams, which applies only to the tablet, i.e. without a connected keyboard. However, the screen has a lower resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a 12.5-inch diagonal.
Slim profile and no extra cooling made possible by the use of the processor of a new series of Core M from Intel. The manufacturer promises that the battery life Port’eg’e Z20t is 9 hours at work with just tablet and over 17 hours when used in conjunction with the keyboard, which is equipped with an additional battery.
Depending on the configuration, the amount of internal memory is 128 or 256 GB (SSD), and 4 or 8 GB of RAM type LPDDR3. The tablet comes with interfaces microHDMI, microUSB and microSD and a docking keyboard adds HDMI, LAN, and two USB 3.0 ports. The included stylus from Wacom, which recognizes 2048 levels of pen pressure on the tablet surface.
The good news is that Toshiba plans to launch the device in the sale separately from the keyboard, and the price of this kit will be $ 899, while the full kit will be available for $ 1399. The official launch is expected in February.
Also Toshiba has updated its catalogue of available tablets with Windows 8.1 operating system, introducing two new models with the name Encore 2 Write. Largely they were designed as a budget alternative to the Surface Pro. Since Toshiba has partnered with Wacom, and these two devices support the stylus through the use of unique technology, which ensures maximum accuracy when writing and drawing. The new Encore 2 Write tablets will be sold with three pre-installed applications that take advantage of this functionality: TruCapture, TruNote and TruRecorder.
The Encore 2 Write are equipped with 8 — and 10-inch displays with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and run on a Quad-core Intel Atom Bay Trail processor. The rest of the specifications are 64 GB of internal memory (there is an additional slot that supports memory cards up to 128GB), 2GB RAM, Micro USB port 2.0, 8-megapixel camera and a 2.1 MP on the front. The tablets provide up to 11 hours of battery life, and their delivery will start January 11.
In conclusion, we note that according to official data, the device will cost 350 and $ 450 for 8 — and 10-inch model, respectively.
