PassBox: free Manager and password generator for Windows
For more than a year as the main password Manager I use LastPass for many reasons. I use it in Firefox, Chrome, and even on my smartphone with Windows Phone. Thanks to convenient timing, I can easily get access to my login credentials in social networks, mailboxes and other Internet services regardless of the platform that I use. This is a fairly safe and secure way to store passwords, but it does not fit everyone. LastPass deserves applause for its powerful online synchronization, but some users prefer to keep their personal data in the cloud. So if you are looking for a good password Manager is working in offline mode, try PassBox. The interface is designed in Metro style so it looks great on Windows 8. But most importantly, PassBox allows you to store login information without any cloud services.
The program is very tiny and consumes very little system resources. Along with this, PassBox is quite safe, as it stores user information in encrypted form using MD5 and DES algorithms. The interface is very simple and quite intuitive.
When you first start PassBox will ask you to create a new master password that will protect your information from prying eyes. Optionally, you can specify the email address, which can be useful in case you forget your master password, and you’ll need to reset it via e-mail.
The main screen of the program looks very impressive. Bright colored tiles at the top of the window provide access to the functions of the application. First on the list is a button «Add New» that allows you to add new credentials. After clicking it, the window will have fields for entering data on the account. Here you can enter the username, password, URL, secret question and answer.
The next menu item («View Passwords») allows to watch a saved account. In addition, you can also edit any previously maintained information. For this you need to select from the list the account name and click «Edit». Under «Options» you can change the master password and email address. To lock a program, a button «Lock PassBox».
In the Arsenal PassBox has built-in password generator that instantly generates secure passwords. The generator allows you to set password length and include special characters.
