Microsoft will make smartphones with Windows Phone in a 3D scanner of persons
Asian Center for research and development of the company Microsoft revealed some very interesting information about the project and system implementation of three-dimensional scanning of faces (and other objects) developed using the camera on your smartphone with Windows Phone. As shown in the video and the images below, the scanner allows to get very accurate 3D model of the face using an ordinary camera on a smartphone.
The project is named Skynet UI and is described as follows:
3D scanning on portable device is a technology that allows you to convert physical objects into 3D models with high resolution using traditional mobile device camera, while there is support for subsequent printing on a 3D printer. Project Skynet UI is aimed at improving user experience with the aim to reduce the barriers between common consumers and three-dimensional reconstruction.
Since this project is part of the research center, the company does not name even approximate terms of the integration of this function into commercial products. Thus, it is very difficult to say when the smartphones with Windows Phone will turn into a real portable 3D scanners.
