Microsoft will limit support for Windows 7 and 8.1 computers with Intel processors Skylake
The share of Windows 7 now accounts for the largest portion of the PC market, and although the tendency of growth of popularity of Windows 10 continues, «seven» remains the cornerstone of many large companies and corporations around the world.
The period of official support for Windows 7 ends January 14, 2020, but on computers with the latest generation of Intel processors (Skylake) Windows 7 will remain without updates much earlier than this date.
Yesterday Microsoft announced that with this configuration, OS support will end three years earlier, in 2017. Then, in rare cases, the company will produce only the critical security updates.
This decision, which, by the way, will affect not only machines with Windows 7, but those running Windows 8.1, was made because of the gap, in terms of performance, stability, security, and more.
Next week the company will publish a list of computers from major manufacturers who will continue to receive updates. This means that if you’re thinking about buying a new computer with the latest technologies from Intel (Skylake processor) and want to continue to use Windows 7 (or Windows 8.1), coupled with adequate support, first make sure that you are interested in configuration is in the supported list.
