Microsoft seeks to acquire minority stake in Nokia HERE
The history of the unit sales Nokia HERE is not yet complete and supply the largest companies continue. In the last hours Bloomberg included in the list of potential buyers and the company from Redmond, noting that Microsoft is committed to acquire a minority stake in the division.
The company’s goal is quite clear, given that Microsoft is currently bound by a contract with Nokia on the licensing of cartographic resources HERE used in Windows Phone and is designed to integrate into Windows 10 (the Maps app for the new operating system will combine the resources of Bing with those from HERE). To acquire part of the division means to obtain more control over these resources.
In General, the list of potential buyers is sufficiently large and in particular includes:
- Uber, in collaboration with Baidu and Apax Partners;
- the group, formed by Tencent Holdings, NavInfo and EQT Partners AB;
- a group of German automakers, including Audi, BMW, Daimler;
- Hellman & Friedman;
- Silver Lake Management;
- Thoma Bravo;
The Wall Street Journal recently reported that Nokia may announce the sale of their cards until the end of may. At the moment none of the companies have not commented on the rumors.
