Microsoft has released Skype for Web (beta), so you can call directly from your browser
Microsoft has launched a beta version of Skype for Web, which allows you to use Skype directly in the browser without the need for the application. At the moment the service only supports current versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Internet Explorer.
The idea of this service is to give us the opportunity to enjoy VoIP service without any add-ons to the browser, but because now, Skype for Web is in Beta, at this stage the plugin will be necessary. However, it will support the work without the plugin. It is expected that this will happen in the future, without a definite timeline.
Now the service is not available to all users, and the company announced that the availability of Skype for Web will be expanded gradually. Initially access will be a small number of existing and new subscribers, while the rest of the users worldwide will be able to start using Skype for Web in the coming months. To try to get access right now, use the «Enter» button here.
Skype for Web can be used in latest versions of Chrome and Firefox, in Safari 6 or later versions and of course in Internet Explorer 10 or newer.
