Microsoft has made the Windows 10 upgrade free to help the development of the mobile version of the platform
In a recent interview with ZDNet, the head of Microsoft Sathya Nadella delved into the company’s strategy regarding Windows Phone. It became the subject of much debate and some confusion from users because of the relatively vague statements made by Satya Nadella, when he announced a reduction of 7,800 jobs in the last week.
Microsoft is trying to do something really new in the mobile segment, not to copy what most people expect. Rather than deal with the rampant popularity of Android and iPhone, Microsoft wants to ensure the presence of its software on desktops and on mobile devices.
Satya explains that the free upgrade is aimed not only to make Windows 10 on the desktop, so popular as possible. «Free upgrade to Windows 10 aims to improve the position of our phones,»says Nadella. Creating a Windows 10 app, the developer will provide a presence in the mobile ecosystem Microsoft, since the idea of universal apps means just that.
Nadella also claims that the desire to develop applications for Windows is one of the reasons why Microsoft again emphasized the importance of the start menu in Windows 10. «It is not because we want to return something outdated, but because it is the best way to improve the liquidity of our store». Obviously, the Windows Store will have a large presence in the «Start» and thus may provoke developers to create applications.
Nadella has made Microsoft an interesting comparison with Apple, mentioning the period of «colored iMacs», when the revival of Apple. He believes that Microsoft is on the same stage with their Lumia smartphones.
