Microsoft filed suit against Samsung in the amount of $ 6.9 million
At the end of last month, information appeared that Microsoft and Samsung will discuss the patent war and more serious future partnerships that could benefit both companies.
We don’t know exactly what happened in these negotiations if they took place at all, but Microsoft has officially announced that it has filed a lawsuit against the Korean manufacturer. The value of the established claim is $ 6.9 million. This is a percentage of the amount that the Galaxy S5 maker has committed to pay each year for Microsoft as licensing fees. Itself the annual fee is $ 1 billion.
In 2011, the two companies signed an agreement according to which Samsung has to pay royalties for every Android smartphone that sells. The contract has a duration of 7 years, and in accordance with its provisions, the two companies exchanged patents, a manufacturer of smartphones, everything else should still seek to promote tablets and smartphones with Windows.
Problems have arisen at the time when Microsoft acquired Nokia. Samsung has decided that this is a breach of contract, although, albeit belatedly, the sum of $ 1 billion was paid. This is the reason for the lawsuit.
According to the Korean manufacturer threatened to stop payments is a topic that will also be discussed in court. To maintain a decent tone, Microsoft added that he appreciates the partnership with Samsung and expects that it will remain stable.
Although the main reason Microsoft calls almost $ 7 million, it is not excluded that the desire for Samsung to terminate the contract is the real reason that forced the software giant to appeal in court. Or no new Samsung smartphones with Windows Phone? What do you think? We will follow with interest the development of this situation.
