Microsoft announced Windows Phone 8 Update 3
Microsoft officially announced Update 3 for Windows Phone 8 is the third update for the mobile platform this year. The new software supports more powerful hardware and allows you to create more attractive smartphones with WP8, and also includes a bunch of new features that users have demanded for a long time. About the most important changes in Windows Phone 8 Update 3, see below.
New display sizes
5-inch displays are already popular among Android smartphones, but now Windows Phone will be able to compensate for the gap from its rival. A new update for the platform will allow manufacturers to produce devices with 5 — or even 6-inch displays. Accordingly, the maximum supported resolution has been increased to 1080p Full HD. Let me remind you that now the device with Windows Phone 8 have a maximum of 4.5-inch displays with a resolution of up to 720p HD.
With larger screens, users will be able to create more detailed and dynamic composition of Live Tiles, because the update will allow to collect in one line 6 small tiles instead of 4 as now.
More powerful processors
The new generation of smartphones with Windows Phone 8 Update 3 will be able to take advantage of the latest and powerful chipset from Qualcomm – Snapdragon 800. Now it is installed in a device such as the Sony Xperia Z1, Samsung Galaxy Note III and LG G2, and it combines a Quad core processor with high performance graphics accelerator.
With this processor and large screen models with Windows Phone 8 will finally become worthy competitors in games and watching videos flagships on Android.
The update will bring a so-called Driving Mode feature that will help drivers during driving. When this mode is activated, users will be less likely to be distracted from the road so as messages, notifications and incoming calls will be disabled. For this mode, you can configure auto answer via SMS, so the caller the caller will know you he will call back when finished driving.
And something else
Windows Phone 8 Update 3 will include many new features, but the most important of them are:
Improvements in multi-tasking. Currently, the multitasking screen shows running apps (similar to Android), but does not stop their work. In Windows Phone 8 Update 3 on this screen will be added to the «X» button, clicking on which you can close out any background applications.
Advanced feature to use your phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot. When you connect your phone to PC or tablet running Windows 8.1 via Bluetooth, you will instantly receive the Internet from your phone to the computer without the need to enter passwords or activate the feature for sharing the Internet.
Custom ringtones. With the new update you can assign each contact their tune and can choose sound alerts for emails, messages, voicemails, and reminders.
In Update 3 will add the ability to lock automatically change the screen orientation, which is annoying some users in certain situations.
It will be easier to control and built-in memory with new settings that will facilitate the removal of unnecessary information from the device. In addition, it will be clearly seen what and how much memory it takes.
«Smart» icons for Wi-Fi and mobile signal that will indicate when to transmit data.
When will this update?
Upgrade to Windows Phone 8 Update 3 for existing devices will begin to spread after a few weeks, but some models can only get it by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, a few days later, on 22 October, will host the Nokia World event, where we will see new Lumia models with Windows Phone 8. There’s also the Finnish manufacturer has announced its phablet Lumia 1520, which, apparently, will be the first device with the new version of Windows Phone.
