Interactive Live Tiles will appear in Windows 10 with a future upgrade
About a year ago Microsoft Research showed what they called «interactive live tiles», which are essentially widgets. In its current form live tiles show information, but do not allow to use functions without opening the app.
The concept of interactive live tiles expands functionality, allowing the user to see more information, but even to perform certain actions, for example, doing calculations on a calculator or scroll through the list of incoming emails. The video below gives a clear picture of what was going on:
In one of the sessions at the conference Microsoft Ignite Jerry Nixon from Microsoft was asked the question, «what is interactive tiles?» He noted that he is not the first time I ask this question and assured developers that this is one of the features that will be part of a future upgrade to Windows 10.
During the session, Jerry Nixon, along with his colleague also shared more information on what is needed.
The company aims to make a fully adaptive user interface which automatically adjusts to screen size of any device, whether large or small, and under it is the desire of Microsoft get and tiles. Like the start screen, where the number of columns of tiles depends on the size of the screen, the tiles are able to adapt and regulate their content.
New Toast notifications
The company is working on the next version of popup notifications, like tiles, can be interactive and more useful. Such notification is intended for all devices.
The action center
During the session, Microsoft has expressed a clear intention to create a unified experience of using the center of the action. We are talking about synchronization alerts and action across all devices. In fact, the center of action, which we will see in Windows 10 on PC will be inherited from the mobile version of the operating system.
