How to use your iPad or Android tablet as a second monitor for Windows PC
From time to time many of us need more screen space for comfortable management of all open Windows, and perform other tasks. Having a second monitor is very helpful in such situations, but not everyone can afford it, simply because not all the desktop will be free space for another monitor. But if you have a tablet, I assure you, the second screen is almost ready to work.
For the lucky owners of an iPad or Android tablet, there are a number of ways you can turn touch device on the second monitor. Just note that given an average diagonal from 7 to 9 inches, the possibilities when using the tablet as a second monitor would be pretty limited, and it is unlikely you will want to use it to edit large spreadsheets, for example. However, specific tasks will suffice and tablet.
No matter you have a iPad or tablet Android, the connection process of these devices as a second monitor, is no different. You need to install a client application on the tablet, and the server part on your PC. In addition, you need to take care about which monitor will be primary.
As I said, to connect your second monitor in several ways. For example, using the app Air Display, which is compatible with iPad, iPhone and Android. The app is really good, but with one significant drawback – the price of $9.99. However, we will consider the cheaper option, namely iDisplay.
The iDisplay app is available for iOS and Android (will cost you $4,99) and the backend is compatible with Windows XP (but only with the 32-bit version) and all versions of Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. Everything else, the tablet and the computer must be connected to the same wireless network. In writing this article I have used the iPad, but the installation process is the same for both platforms.
First, download the desktop app (available free) for Windows. When installing you may receive a warning about installing the new display driver, you will be prompted to restart the computer. While waiting for reboot, in order not to waste time, you can proceed to install the mobile app. Here you can buy a version for iOS and here for Android.
After launching the app on the tablet, the screen will display a list of computers that was discovered backend iDisplay. After clicking on the computer name in the list, start the connection.
Actually, that’s all. If done correctly, the screen of your tablet will display the image from the computer. Now you can drag window beyond the edge of the monitor, and they will appear on the screen of the tablet.
