How to turn Windows 8 or Windows 10 WiFi hotspot
In Windows XP, Vista and 7 has one great feature that allows you to create wireless connections between computers. These compounds can be used to create a wireless network between multiple PC’s and Internet sharing from one PC to other. Unfortunately, this cannot be done in Windows 8, 8.1 and 10, at least through the GUI. However, to make the laptop or tablet into a Wi-Fi access point is still using the command line.
What you’ll need
To use a laptop (or tablet) with the «eight» or «ten» as a Wi-Fi hotspot, it needs to be equipped with at least two network adapters, including wireless. Through one of them, the computer must be connected to the Internet.
This guide will help you if you want:
- to laptop with Internet access via an Ethernet connection (via network cable) could act as a wireless access point to access the network with other devices;
- to a laptop or tablet with Internet access via a mobile USB modem (3G or 4G) could give the network access to other Wi-Fi devices.
Step 1: Create a virtual wifi network in Windows 8, 8.1 and 10
First you need to open a command prompt with administrator privileges and use a special command to create a virtual wireless network.
As an example, I will create a wireless network called Hotspot, and a password to connect to this network will be WindowsTips.
In the command prompt window, enter the following command:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=Hotspot key= WindowsTips
Note the values of the parameters the SSID and KEY. For them you can specify your own values.
After entering the command press Enter. If successful, the command prompt will notify you the corresponding message.
So, we have created not just a virtual Wi-Fi network – we have created a virtual adapter, which will work as a wireless access point for other computers and devices. But he began to work, you must perform one more step, namely, to turn it on.
Do not close the command prompt and type the following command:
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
Virtual wireless adapter will appear in the window «control Center network and sharing», but in its current form it will approach unless to create a network between computers for file transfer, for example. To connected to the virtual wifi adapter the device had Internet access, you want to make a few simple settings.
Step 2: turn on Internet access for connected to the virtual wireless network devices
Open «control Center network and sharing». Please note, the virtual network is shown as active but no network access.
In the same window, select an active network that has access to the Internet. In my case it’s wireless network.
In the status window of the network, click «Properties».
In network properties go to the tab «Access».
To allow other devices to use the Internet while connected to the virtual Wi-Fi adapter, check the checkbox «Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet».
In the list of connections, select the previously created virtual network.
Save the settings and return to «control Center network and sharing».
Verify that the virtual wireless network has Internet access. If the access is, hence, connected devices will also have access to the network.
