How to enable tablet mode (Continuum) Windows 10
Yesterday, completely unexpectedly, Microsoft has announced a new preview version of Windows 10, which is now available for download. This version brings many improvements, especially when compared with the preview, released last year, and almost all changes were made based on feedback from users. Build 9926 is equipped with the improved start menu, Cortana integration (does not support Russian language) and new applications, including Photos, Maps, Parameters, etc.
One of the main features of this build is the presence in it of the operating mode Continuum (or, simply, the tablet mode), which instantly increases the usability of the operating system on devices that support touch input and keyboard. In other words, for convertible devices, the so-called «transformers», there are two modes: tablet mode and normal desktop mode. In tablet mode, the operating system interface is easy to work with it using the touch screen.
For convertible devices, this mode will be enabled automatically if the user disconnect the keyboard or transformerait device for use in tablet mode (if we are talking about such a device like the Lenovo Yoga). When you reattach the keyboard turns back on normal mode.
On other devices (with touch or without), you can enable this mode manually. To do this, open the new app «Settings» (Settings) and navigate to «System». In the sections list, select «tablet Mode» and toggle the «Enable tablet mode» to «On.»
Then, the operating system will instantly switch to full screen mode, ie any Windows and the start menu will fill the entire display area. In tablet mode, you can also use gestures to navigate between applications and the operating system.
By the way, to «start menu» always opened full screen, you don’t have to enable tablet mode. To do this, simply click on the «Expand» start menu, which is located in the upper right corner of the start menu next to the power options.
Update: As correctly noted in the comments, this mode can be much faster and easier to include a notification center.
