How to create tiles for launching applications from the Office Online from the start screen of Windows 8 or 8.1
Office Online is a cloud-based version of Microsoft Office that provides access to the most common office applications, including Word Online, Excel Online, PowerPoint Online, OneNote Online, Outlook, Calendar and People. Possibilities offered by these tools, more than enough for everyday use. But since this is a web application, many people believe that they can’t provide the level of facilities that have full-fledged apps.
Fortunately, if you use Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, you can easily disguise a Microsoft Office Online (in our example, this Word Online, Excel Online, and PowerPoint Online), to work with them, you feel almost as if you used an ordinary desktop application. Install nothing, just follow the following steps:
The only thing you need to do is to click on links that take you to a page to create a new document in Word Online, Excel Online and PowerPoint Online. These links need to open in the Metro version of Internet Explorer, because this browser is very fast, runs full screen and almost instantly loads a web page, all of which will create the impression that you are working with a desktop application versions. Keep in mind that to use the Metro version of Internet Explorer, the desktop version of IE should be set as the default browser.
So, open the Metro version of IE and go to the following address:
In the browser click on «favorites» and then click «Pin site».
Now just enter the desired bookmark name, for example, «Word Online» and click on «home screen».
As a result, the initial screen will appear with new tile blue color, which is typical for Word.
