How to set automatic connection to the Internet via PPPoE in Windows
Many providers around the world offer their online services through the so-called high-speed PPPoE connection (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet). To communicate with the Internet via PPPoE service providers usually give their clients a unique user name and password required to connect to their networks.
The disadvantage of PPPoE is that you need to launch the connection manually every time after turning on the computer. It’s an annoying inconvenience, which many users would like to forget once and for all. In this article I will talk about the settings with which the computer with this connection will connect to the Internet automatically during startup.
1. The start task scheduler
In particular, we need to launch the regular task scheduler. The most simple and quick way to do this is to use the Windows desktop search. Enter the first few letters of a key query, and then click the «task Scheduler» in the search results.
In Windows 10, the task scheduler can also be launched from the start menu: All progenitress administration Windows.
In control panel, it is located at the following path: Panel upravleniyami and bezopasnosti.zarabotnaea.
Regardless, as a result, you will see this window:
2. Scheduling automatic connection when you login
Now we need to schedule an automatic connection to the Internet every time you log in.
In the task scheduler window right click «Create basic task».
In the wizard create the task, enter the task name, e.g., «Redial». You can also enter a description but this is optional. Click «Next».
Next you need to choose when specifically to run our task. Since our goal is to have a PPPoE connection to automatically connect to the Internet every time you log on, select «At log on to Windows». Click «Next».
The penultimate phase of the task action selection. We need to have a PPPoE connection to automatically start with Windows. Accordingly, select «Run a program». Click «Next».
And now the most important part of the process – set up a script that will be executed automatically.
For the system to automatically connect to the Internet using PPPoE, you must enter the following information:
- In the field «Program / script» enter the command rasdial.
- The field «Add arguments (optional)» should contain the name of the connection (in quotes) and the user name and password with a dash in front of them. For example, suppose that your PPPoE connection is called WWW, and to connect to it you use the username Ivan password and 123456. In this case, you must add the following arguments: «WWW» —Ivan -123456.
The field «working directory» leave empty.
At the final stage you will see a brief description of the created task. Click «Done».
After the wizard closes you will be returned to the main task scheduler window, where you will see that your task has been added to the list of other scheduled tasks.
3. Reboot the computer and check
Finally, restart your computer to check the result of your actions. If all steps were done correctly, after rebooting the system needs to connect to the Internet automatically. Please note that from now on every time you log in, the screen will briefly appear in the console window, signaling the start of the connection process.
