As in the program Victoria to configure scanning for specific section
As you know, the presence on hard disk errors can lead to serious issues reading/writing, to the extent that Windows can not boot normal. For their Troubleshooting are special programs, of which the most popular is Victoria. By default, the program scans all of the space on a physical hard disk, which takes a very long time.
A full system scan, however, may be unnecessary, if the errors read/write are observed only on the C drive, that is on the system partition. How to be in this case? Fortunately, Victoria allows you to set the bounds of a scan for a specific section by determining the values of start and end sectors. In the process of test drive Victoria divides disk space into identical blocks, each of which consists of 256 sectors and has its own serial number. Defining the number of the first and the last block of the system partition, it’s easy to set the boundaries within which the evaluation will be conducted.
This is done as follows. Run Victoria and being on the Standard tab, select at the top right of the program window you need disk. We have it WDS WP5000AAKS-00V1A0.
Then switch to the Advansed tab and click on «Viev part data» – the values of the blocks are displayed in a clear table. Column N contains the sequence number of the demarcated region of a physical hard disk, the value of the Boot column indicates whether the partition is bootable (yes – Yes, no – no), the System displays the type of the current file system size and Start LBA and End LBA, the values of the blocks.
In our example, a section starts with a block of 2048 (Start LBA), and ends with the block number 102414335 (And LBA). Why not 717847? Because along with the section we will scan boot area – the additional partition size of 350 MB that Windows created during setup. Now switch to the Test tab and enter start and end values of the blocks in the field [Start LBA] and [End LBA]. The boundary is set, you can start scanning the disk surface.
Define the start and end of the block sections in the program in Victoria has its shortcomings. The program correctly displays only the data partition, the numbers of disk blocks with a more modern markup GPT Victoria may determine inaccurately. If your PC is set the GPT disk to determine the starting and ending blocks of a partition, it is better to use the free software AOMEI Partition Assistant.
Here also everything is simple. In the program window click on the selected tab, right-click the shortcut menu, click properties, then switch in an additional window on the tab «Information» and view the number of the first and the last physical sector. The obtained data transfer in Victoria and scan the selected area.
