Elementary OS – an elegant operating system «Apple» style and install it next to Windows
Mac OS is perhaps the most beautiful and elegant operating system, but at the same time, if I may say so, the most restricted, and it can be installed only on computers made by Apple. The same of the owners of ordinary computers that I wanted to try Mac OS on the desktop or have to resort to themes that make Windows look like Mac OS or try to install a modified version of the Mac OS (so-called «Hackintosh»).
But there is a third option. For example, you can install Elementary OS – an operating system based on Ubuntu Linux using a graphical environment, Pantheon, making it look like a Mac OS. Of course, this is nothing more than imitation, but what! High style and quality of execution of graphic shell it matches perfectly with the minimalist, making the interface of Elementary OS the most convenient and easy to use.
Beginning of the history of Elementary OS refers to 2007, when a group of designers and developers, it was decided to create the project, the purpose of which was developing applications and themes for Ubuntu, but then still nobody assumed that it will evolve into something greater, though the prerequisites for this were definitely. Unusual design ideas, the elegance and usability of quality established under the project, elementary themes attracted to him more and more programmers who initially worked on the development of tools with graphical skins, and then offered to create a separate operating system. The proposal was unanimously supported, and 11 August 2013 the final version of Elementary OS saw the light.
Composition and system requirements
Like all operating systems, Elementary OS includes a set of preinstalled applications. In addition to its own GUI, the list of the supplied programs is file Manager, Pantheon Files, photo Manager Shotwell, Scratch text editor, email client Geary Mail, calendar, and task scheduler Maya, Midori browser, music player Noise, messenger for messaging Empathy, center for installing applications and Plank – located at the bottom of the desktop the quick launch toolbar, like the one in Mac OS. System requirements can be called minimal. To work Elementary OS will be enough 1 GB of RAM and 15 GB of hard disk space.
Installing Elementary OS next to Windows 10
Consider in this example, the installation of the system as a second operating system is virtually identical to installing Linux Ubuntu. You need about 10-15 GB (unless you plan to install programs, and can be less) of free disk space and, of course, the very Elementary OS recorded on a DVD-ROM or USB flash drive. To create the installation flash drive you can use the program Rufus.
The BIOS expose boot from external media, load and get into the setup menu.
Then everything is in order:
Choose Russian language and click «Install elementary», in the next window, click «Continue», the installation type, select «Other option».
Next you will be prompted to select the partition to install the system. Select free space, click on the plus icon and in the appeared window «Create partition» in the Size box put 1000-2000 MB in the drop-down list «Use as» select «swap».
Back to free space again, click the plus and this time the dropdown list of «Use as» select «Ext4 Journaling system» and «mount Point» specify the slash (/).
Making sure the created partition with Ext4 file system is checked, click «Install now» and agree on the formatting.
This will start the installation process. It will take place mostly in automatic mode, you first need to select the user’s location, keyboard layout and come up with a traditional username and password to login.
When the installation completes, the wizard prompts you to restart the computer. At next start you will get to a custom boot menu, Elementary OS, where you can select the desired operating system.
