How to clear space on the C:drive
The first three simple and important steps:
- To move my documents to drive D: (or any other)
- To move installed programs to another partition
- Clean temporary files
- To turn off system restore
1. To move my documents to drive D: (or any other)
By default, the My documents folder is stored on the system disk in the user profile. Many people like to keep there all the way to the movies, which, in turn, takes place. Therefore, I recommend perensti folder on another partition, nothing lost. Here’s how:
Right-click on the icon «my documents» in the Start menu or on the desktop and select «Properties». In the opened window you can see the block «Location of the washed-up folder». There the path type «C:Documents and SettingsuserMy documents». Just erase and write the new path «D:Мои documents»
Confirm in the next step, create a folder and transfer all files. Now the directory «My documents rests on drive D: and a shortcut on the desktop and in the Start-up indicates it there.
2. To move installed programs to another partition
If you have installed software systems that take up a lot of space, such as Photoshop, Autocad, Nero latest versions, etc., remove them and install again, this time putting the installation path, for example, «D:Program Files».
3. Clean temporary files
Many programs and system including do not like to remove a temporary files, which leads to their accumulation. They are stored again on the system drive. Delete everything in the following folders:
C:Documents and SettingsuserLocal SettingsTEMP
C:Documents and SettingsuserLocal SettingsTemporary Internet FilesContent.IE5 (except for the index file.dat)
Review: the Last two options — hidden folders, if you have not enabled display them, you can do it by reading this article.
Then for sure, you can use a standard cleaner space on your system daiske. It is located here: start — Programs — accessories — system tools — disk Cleanup
When you start to select your system partition, click «OK» and wait until the program will collect information about files that can be deleted. At the end of the information gathering process choose the checkmark all that you want to delete and confirm. In the list there is nothing for which the system would cease to work because the program looks only temporary and obsolete files.
4. To turn off system restore
The double-edged sword. On the one hand decently frees disk space, on the other hand if you ever have to roll back the system to a restore point — nothing happens. Because checkpoint is a system restore, so watch yourself.
«Start» — «control Panel» — «System», in the opened window go to the tab «system Restore». Put a checkmark next to «Disable system restore on all drives» and apply changes.
