At BUILD 2014 was Microsoft Office for touch screens
To work in Office on a touch screen devices will become a lot easier thanks to a new version, which was presented at the BUILD conference in San Francisco. Interface elements in a new Office created specifically for use on touchscreens, and that is what is missing in the current version of the office Suite.
The new version is quite much like Office for iPad, which was presented last week. At the top is the ribbon with the basic tools for working with text, and immediately under it is the area to view the documents themselves. The buttons on the toolbar are quite large and are far away from each other. The famous Ribbon UI from Microsoft is still here, but have been slightly modified to accommodate the new touch interaction. Of course, it supports the scaling gesture, and there’s a popup menu for editing documents.
At the same time, the news about the new Office is connected with another very important thing. We are talking about universal Windows apps. Thanks to new tools in order to simplify the development of apps for the Microsoft ecosystem, the new version of office will be available for the whole Windows family. This means that the software will be available not only on PCs, laptops and tablets with Windows, but also on smartphones with Windows Phone.
Office has always been one of the most popular products from Microsoft and with the new version it will become your faithful companion for a much larger number of Windows users. Unfortunately, the company did not say when will this version of the package, but what Microsoft has demonstrated that almost looks like a finished product, so it is very likely that it will be available in a few months.
