«Small» Surface will be presented may 20
Rumors of a «mini» version of the Surface was escorted a great part of the life cycle of your Surface Pro/Pro 2 and Surface RT/2, but still the tablet family is represented exclusively by the models with a 10.1-inch form factor. However, the expectation of users who want to get a compact version of the tablet from Microsoft, apparently, comes to an end, the company from Redmond has started sending out invitations to the event, which is may 20.
The tagline of the invitation says: «Join us for a small gathering» («Join our little congregation»), and the word «small», most likely, shows that the form factor of the new Surface.
According to rumors, the Surface Mini will feature a 7.5 — or 8-inch display with a resolution of 1440 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 4:3. As a SoC, the tablet will use an unidentified model of chipset from Qualcomm. This suggests that the device will be running Windows 8.1 RT, not Windows 8.1. Therefore, future owners will not be able to run desktop applications. On the other hand, there were rumors that the Surface Mini will get an Intel Bay Trail processor, which means that it will be based on a full version of Windows 8.1.
Given this ambiguity in the specifications, it is better not to build any assumptions and wait for the official announcement, the more that the wait is not long at all.
