Review UnoTelly: how to watch Netflix and other blocked content
Want to watch online video service Netflix outside the countries in which it works? Or, maybe you want to listen to Spotify? UnoTelly is a service through which all this becomes possible.
What is SmartDNS and how does UnoTelly?
Have you ever tried to register to Netflix or Spotify, being in Russia? Likely to have an account there do you prevent a message like «sorry, this service is not available in your region». That is, you are faced with the so-called geo-blocking, which is a popular streaming network channels and successfully used to limit access to their content from the regions in which they are not working because of copyright issues. Unfortunately, you can’t do anything about it because your IP address assigned by your ISP. But the workarounds are still there, and UnoTelly is one of them.
Let’s start with the fact that UnoTelly provides SmartDNS service called UnoDNS which, as its name suggests, works on the basis of the domain name system (DNS), not VPN.
As the web sites each computer/device on the network has an assigned IP address that belongs to a particular region. Some sites in North America and Europe block access to their content using the geography of IP addresses. UnoDNS provides the user with a local IP address when you visit these sites and thus allows you to bypass regional restrictions. That is, if you open Netflix, the site server will think that you are somewhere in the US, for example. Moreover, UnoDNS does not limit bandwidth, so your connection speed will be the same as without the use of the service.
How much is it?
The creators of UnoTelly we know that not all are willing to pay upfront, so they offer everyone a free trial. When you register you will be asked to enter your: name, e-mail address and password. Then UnoTelly you will receive confirmation of registration along with the IP addresses of their 2 closest DNS server based on your location. The trial version will allow you to try out the full package UnoDNS for 8 days. This means that you will have access to all the features of the paid subscription.
UnoTelly provides SmartDNS (UnoDNS) and a VPN service, but this review focuses on UnoDNS. I briefly note that the difference between SmartDNS and VPN is in one word – encryption. Simply put, a VPN encrypts all the transmitted data and allows you to increase your privacy, but at the same time may affect the connection speed. So if you just want to watch movies and listen to music on the geo-restricted websites, the UnoDNS is the right choice.
The cost of UnoDNS varies depending on the length and type of subscription. For example, the Premium package for 30 days will cost you $4.95, while the cost of this subscription for a period of 90, 180 and 365 days is $12.96, $24.95 and $47.95 respectively. There is still a «gold» subscription, which is slightly more expensive, but in addition to includes UnoDNS and UnoVPN. You can pay using Visa, MasterCard or PayPal.
UnoTelly also provide money back guarantee during the first 7 days after purchase.

I will show you how to setup UnoDNS on Windows, if you for example want to watch Netflix on a computer, and the example of a router if you want to be able to watch Netflix on every device in your network.
I will show you how to configure a computer with Windows 8, but similarly configured, Xbox, PlayStation, Mac OS X, or Smart TV.
- Step 1 – determine the fastest DNS servers UnoTelly
You first need to choose the nearest to you (and, as a rule, the faster) DNS servers. You can find them on this page of the website UnoTelly.
If one of the servers maintains a Dynamo, don’t forget to go to Dynamo settings page QuickStart and set your desired country for your TV.
Dynamo is a feature that allows you to choose the regional version of the site or channel, if any.
- Step 2 – change network settings to use DNS servers UnoTelly
Now open the window «Network connections» and go to the properties window of your connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet depending on the connection type).
In the connection properties highlight «Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)» and click «Properties».
In the opened window check the checkbox «Use the following DNS server addresses» and enter the IP addresses that have been provided by UnoTelly. Apply the changes and return to the QuickStart page on the website UnoTelly.
As a result of the settings of your account status will change from this:
This means that everything is ready to use.
To configure the router
If you want all devices on your network to use UnoTelly, then you need to configure the router.
To do this, open a browser and enter the IP address of the router (usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1).
To log in to admin. bar enter the user name (default admin) and password (usually admin, but some routers do not require a password, i.e. this field, perhaps you can be left empty).
In the administrative panel of the router find the DNS field (usually they are in the WAN settings) and enter the IP addresses of the DNS servers UnoTelly.
Save the changes and restart the router.
When properly configured, the account status will change to «Everything is good».
How well does it work?
Works amazingly! I have no problem watching American Netflix, Hulu+, ABC, and listen to Spotify, not see any noticeable difference in connection speed. I tested UnoTelly on Windows PC, Xbox One, LG Smart TV and iPad 2. I’ve tested both individual installation and configuration of the router. UnoTelly works perfectly! So if you have a need to watch geo-blocked streaming content, I highly recommend you this service.
