Overview of the official Twitter app for Windows 8 and RT
Official Twitter app for most mobile platforms available for quite a long time, but Windows 8 and RT, until recently, remained without it. The release of the application was held on 14 March, so with our review, we are very late in – for the simple reason that the first two versions of the app have just worked, but in latest update it was fixed.
Twitter for Windows mobile is very similar to its brothers, and Packed the same set of features, although the interface follows the design language Metro. In addition, the app offers some features that are only available on Windows 8 and RT – the ability to snap an app to the edge screen, live tiles, etc. in addition, the application allows you to open URLS published in tweets, and view images in full screen mode – all within one interface.
Under Modern UI, Twitter for Windows 8 has received a clean and uncluttered interface. When you first start the app will ask you to enter your credentials to log in to your account. You need to enter a user name and password, and then click on «Log in». If a Twitter account you don’t yet, the application offers the possibility to register without using a browser.
After testing numerous third-party alternatives, including ROWI, Tweetro and MetroTwit – all these apps have made me quite a good impression – I had pinned very high hopes for the official client. To my delight, the wait was worth it. Beautiful and minimalistic interface on the left contains a navigation bar which allows access to the sections «Home», «when», «know» and «I». Messages from users you follow appear in tab «Home». Clicking on any tweet allows you to access options to retweet, reply and favorites.
On your profile you can look under «I». Along with reading your own tweets, you can edit your profile, access your private messages, view favorites, and the total number of your tweets, followers and users followed you.
To write a new tweet, click on the button with a picture of the pen in the upper right corner. If necessary, to tweets, you can attach images and add location information.
The links in messages, you can go without leaving the Twitter interface, and the photos open in full screen mode. If you want the link to open in your default browser, this provides a special button in the form of a globe, which you will find in the lower right corner.
Overall, the company has done a wonderful job of creating an application, which was awaited by many users of Windows 8/RT. You can download it from the Windows Store.
